CBU Celebrates Seniors in WAC Showdown

RESULTS
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University scheduled itself a challenge for its Senior Day, as the Lancers welcomed Western Athletic Conference foes Wyoming and Grand Canyon to the Lancer Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers battled Wyoming, the reigning WAC champion, and Grand Canyon, which took third in the conference in 2018. The Lopes were the big winners, with a 157-143 victory over the Cowboys and 175-125 win over CBU, which also fell to Wyoming 163.5-136.5. It was the final home event for five CBU seniors: Jerome Heidrich, Garret Chew, Tanner Shore, Justin Quiroga and Josh Fluetsch.
CBU will take next week off before taking part in the UCLA Diving Invite (Jan. 18-20) and traveling to UC San Diego for a dual on Saturday, Jan. 19 at noon.
Brandon Schuster won two of CBU's three events in the 400-yard individual medley and 500 freestyle, with respective times of four minutes, 2.32 seconds and 4:39.12. Both were also good for the 2019 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championship. He had another provisional time in the 200 free, taking third place with a 1:41.36.
Scott Tolman was the Lancers' other winner on Saturday, as he tied with Wyoming's Liam Holt for first in the 100 breaststroke with a 56.37 that was also a CSCAA consideration time. Tolman added a runner-up marks in the 200 breast (2:02.83) and 200-medley relay (1:31.71) with Jacob Leahy, Quiroga and Heidrich.
Josh Walters earned provisional marks for top-three finishes in the 50 free and 100 butterfly. He tied for second in the 50 free with Grand Canyon's Florent Janin with a 20.99, and then took third in the 100 fly (50.47).
True freshman Robert Moseley had two top-three and CSCAA consideration standard swims, as well, in the 200 back (second, 1:52.33) and 100 back (third, 51.36). Leahy finished just behind Moseley for fourth in the 100 back (51.65).
The Lancers packed together in the 200 butterfly, with David Miller taking second (1:53.20), followed by Adityastha Wratsangka (1:53.25) and Quinn Birtles (1:54.64) in third and fourth. All three Lancers notched CSCAA B cuts in the race. Heidrich added an individual CSCAA time in the 100 free (fourth, 46.24).
