Lancers Wrap Up Two-Day Meet in Riverside

RIVERSIDE --- The Lancers concluded a two-day meet at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Saturday. In town to compete with CBU were San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara, the University of Hawai'i, and the University of Denver.
Action was split across two days, as the first half of the competition wrapped up on Friday evening. Athletes returned to the pool on Saturday for the final events in both swimming and diving.
One Zone E qualification was achieved over the weekend, as Mario Del Valle hit the 3-meter qualification with a score of 331.30. Del Valle joins John Angelovic, who qualified in one- and three-meters last week. Del Valle placed first in three-meter diving, and Angelovic placed first in one-meter with a score of 312.25.
Women's dive was led by third-place finishes from Jade Fontenelle in both one (230.45) and three-meter (233.55). Bella Reynolds placed fourth in three-meter with a score of 232.10.
In the pool, Mark Kovacsics continued his fast start to the season with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:08.49). Kovacsics also added a win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:25.39). Stephen Cui added a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.11. Cui later won again in the 50-yard backstroke (22.29).
The Lancers had second-place finishes as well. The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team placed second behind Santa Barbara. The team consisted of Naya Koc, Eliza Taylor, Avery Easterling, and Emily Drossel. Eli Rollen placed second in the men's 200-yard IM (1:50.78) and 200-yard backstroke (1:46.84). Benjamin Madson also added a runner-up finish behind Cui in the 50-yard backstroke (23.11).
In team scoring, Santa Barbara and Denver won their men's competitions against CBU. Santa Barbara and San Diego State won the women's side. Hawai'i only competed in diving.
Women's Swim will compete next weekend on the road against Northern Colorado. Men's swim will be back in action on November 20 for the start of the Utah Tech Invite. Dive will return to action on November 20 for the Trojan Diving Invite, hosted by USC.
