Lancers Log Four New Top-10 Times

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University logged four new top-10 times in its tri-dual with CSU Bakersfield and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
Faith Brazil continued her strong debut season, as she won both breaststroke events on Saturday. The true freshman won the 100-yard breast in one minute, 5.99 seconds, and then logged a new-season high and a top-10 time in CBU history of 2:21.31 in the 200 breast.
Nicole Cienega logged two top-10 times in the 100 and 200 butterfly for CBU. The true freshman took second in both events, with respective times of 57.25 and 2:04.96, that were both good for second place.
Buse Topcu picked up a fourth top-10 time for CBU when she finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:23.61.
On the boards, the Lancers took first, second and fourth on the 1-meter board. Savannah Uhlir led the way with 231.05 points, while Kiree Lowe (222.05) and Madison Liu (202.60) followed.
CBU had three divers in the top five at 3-meter. Lowe got the win (233.85) just in front of Uhlir (230.30), while Liu took fifth (188.15).
The Lancers clocked a season-best time in the 200-medley relay. Brazil and Cienega teamed up with Emily Longfellow and Rita Smirnova to take second place in the event (1:47.29).
Isabella Rhodes secured medal finishes for CBU in the 50 (second, 24.24) and the 100 freestyles (third, 52.89). Hannah Houlton (24.81) and Smirnova (24.87) also took fourth and fifth in the 50 free.
Longfellow also added two top-four individual swims for the Lancers. She took second in the 100 back, with a season-best time of 59.11, and then took fourth in the 200 back (2:15.10).
Rebeca Oviedo (1:55.72) and Mackenzie Mergel (1:56.36) finished back-to-back in second and third place in the 200 free.
There were several other highlight performances for CBU. Mackenzie Degn took fourth place in the 1000 free (10:43.75) in her first time swimming the event in college. Fellow freshman Vianka Hoyer took fourth in the 100 fly (58.87), setting a new season best by almost two seconds. Alexa Melara also took fourth in the 200 breast (2:25.67).
