
MBB Preview: Lancers Continue Homestand

RIVERSIDE --- The homestand continues for California Baptist University this week, as the Lancers will host Southern University on Dec. 18 and Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 22.
Southern and Mississippi Valley State belong to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Lancers have already played one SWAC member in Jackson State on Nov. 5, where the Lancers came away with a 93-70 win for the home opener.
This stretch of home games for the Lancers marks the longest homestand of the season, as CBU opened its six-straight games with an 87-68 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 14.
The win for the Lancers improved their record to 6-4 on the season and extended their win streak to three in a row.

Southern University enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-8 overall record after falling to Butler on Dec. 14, 66-41.
SU is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the Jaguars are currently on their most extended road trip of the season. The Jaguars have been on the road since Nov. 22, and the game against the Lancers is game eight of the 11-game road trip.
Wednesday's meeting marks the second time these two teams will face off on the hardwood. Last season, the Lancers made the trip to the F.G. Clark Activity Center, where they won the first-ever matchup, 79-76.
Notables:
- The Jaguars are led by 6-6 freshman forward Damiree Burns, who is averaging 9.5 points per game.
- Senior Darius Williams is the team's leading board man with an average of 6.9 rebounds per game, while Burns is second on the team with 5.1rpg.
- The Jaguars are an aggressive team defensively, recording the second-most personal fouls in all of DI basketball.
- The Jaguars have tallied 264 personal fouls this season with an average of 24 fouls per game. Opponents are averaging 18.6 made free throws per contest as a result.
- SU is not afraid to shoot the ball with over 700 field goal attempts on the season – averaging 64.5 attempts per game.
- Head Coach Sean Woods is in his second season at the helm of the program. He was named the 13th head coach in the program's history on Apr. 12, 2018.

The final game of the week is no stranger to the CBU Events Center, as the Lancers welcome back Mississippi Valley State on Sunday. The Lancers hosted the Delta Devils last season in a 107-71 victory that resulted in a new school record. CBU made a program-best 18 threes during the contest.
The Delta Devils are in the hunt for their first win of the season after starting the season at 0-9. MVSU is currently on a five-game road trip that ends with Sunday's game against the Lancers.
Before making their way to the Events Center, the Delta Devils will play Wright State on Dec. 17 and Santa Clara on Dec. 20.
Notables:
- Head Coach Lindsey Hunter is in his first season at the helm of the program for the Delta Devils.
- Coach Hunter spent 17 years in the NBA as a player and another two as a coach in the league, including as interim head coach of the Phoenix Suns during the 2012-13 season.
- MVSU lost all five starters from the 2018-19 season and returned just three letterwinners from the 17-man squad.
- Michael Green, who played the sixth-man role for last year's team, is leading the charge with a team-best 19.4 points per game.
- Freshman Caleb Hunter is the only other player in double figures for the Delta Devils with an average of 11.0ppg.
- Coach Hunter's team has eight players averaging 19 minutes or more per contest.
