RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the first time in her career, California Baptist University's Emma Meriggioili was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 second team on Thursday by the Corporation of Sports Information Directors of America.
It was far from a surprise, as Meriggioli was named to the Pacific West Conference's All-Academic Team the last three years. Meriggioli is the first player in team history to earn CoSIDA All-Academic honors in NCAA Division I.
The elementary education major has enjoyed a historic senior season with the Lancers. CBU is currently 13-10, 6-4 in the Western Athletic Conference to rank fourth in the WAC going into Thursday night's game versus Grand Canyon at 6 p.m. in the CBU Events Center.
Over the last four years, Meriggioli has played in every CBU game – all 122 – and is coming up on the end of a historic career. The guard is only the third Lancer to accumulate at least 350 assists and 200 three-pointers in their career.
The Madison, Wis. native boasts the best free-throw percentage in CBU history at .826, and also ranks fifth all-time with 212 three-pointers made, seventh in 565 three-point attempts and 10th with a .375 three-point percentage. She also ranks ninth with 391 career assists and can crack the top five for games played if she appears in three more games this year.
This season, Meriggioli ranks first in the WAC with a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio and 43.6 three-point percentage. Her 1.9 three-pointers and 4.2 assists a game rank fourth in the WAC. She's averaging 7.2 points, 4.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
She has scored at least points four times this year and 21 or more twice. Her eight three-pointers at CSUN on Nov. 28, 2018 rank second in CBU's NCAA era individual single-game record books, with the .889 three-point field goal percentage (8-for-9) tying for first.
