Lancers, Renaud Honored for Academics

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Both California Baptist University's track teams were named All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while Emilie Renaud earned individual All-Academic recognition.
CBU's women posted a 3.54 team GPA, while the men cumulated a 3.08 team GPA to also earn All-Academic Team distinction. The Lancer women's GPA was not far off South Dakota State's 3.684, which led all of NCAA Division I. Harvard had the highest GPA among the men with a 3.55.
Renaud won the Western Athletic Conference championship in the steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes, 58.40 seconds this season. She posted a season-best time of 10:24.16 in the steeplechase and 4:33.75 in the 1,500 meter.
Programs needed to achieve at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA to qualify for the award. All told, 366 teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics. Breaking it down further, 227 of those were women's teams compared to 139 men's programs. The Lancer women's team GPA of 3.54 ranked just outside the top 30 of all D-I programs.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor seasons.
