RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University women's basketball received its first ever ranking in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 rankings released on Tuesday night.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from 22 conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic. It is voted on by a committee of 30 coaches from those conferences, including CBU Head Coach Jarrod Olson.
This ranking comes as the Lancers are in the midst of a historic run for the program, currently sitting atop the Division I standings at 5-0 alongside Clemson, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. CBU's current win streak stands at eight games which is good for the 12th best in Division I right now and began back on February 29, 2020. The Lancers also lead the nation in assists with 110 through five games, currently 25 more than the next team, North Carolina.
The Lancers are one of just nine undefeated teams on the list, but the only one with more than three wins at this time. They edged out Troy by one point for the No. 25 spot. They join North Dakota State (16), Quinnipiac (20), and Akron (23) as the newest members to the list.
CBU is the lone Western Athletic Conference member to make the list for the women, with New Mexico State (20) representing on the men's side.
