RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University put on quite the show in the CBU Events Center Saturday night, as the Lancers rolled past the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State, 95-66.
The atmosphere was electric from start to finish, as 4,957 Lancer fans watched as the Lancers produced a 29-point margin of victory. It marks the seventh-best men's basketball crowd at the Events Center since it opened in 2017.
Five Lancers were in double figures for the second straight game, as Tre Armstrong led the way with a team-best 17 points. He went 4-7 from the 3-point line and a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. Dan Akin recorded his first double-double as a Lancer, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Taran Armstrong finished his night with 12 points and nine assists, going 5-6 from the field. Ty Rowell added 11 points, while Reed Nottage finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
"We're deeper and these guys pull for each other," said CBU head coach Rick Croy. "I've said that from the start. You can have depth, but if the depth isn't pulling for each other, it doesn't work as well. These guys love seeing each other have success."
The Lancers were red hot for all 40 minutes, shooting 59 percent from the field (32-54) and 48 percent from the 3-point line (11-23). They held the Delta Devils to 35 percent from the field (22-62) and 19 percent from beyond the arc (3-16). CBU also came out on top in the rebounding department, outrebounding the Delta Devils, 48-29.
Croy added, "We were much more connected defensively. Our focus on the week was competitive excellence. Like the things you can control."
CBU led for over 38 minutes during the contest, as Dan Akin helped bring the lead to double-digits at the 8:01 mark with an emphatic dunk.
