CBU Closes Out WAC Series With Conference Power NM State

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University volleyball wrapped up the season set with Western Athletic Conference frontrunner NM State on Tuesday in the Van Dyne Gym.
The Lancers battled and put together two of their best sets of the series, but the Aggies still came away with the sweep (25-17, 25-19, 25-11). It keeps NM State undefeated at 8-0 in the WAC and overall. CBU is now 4-5 and 3-5 in conference this season.
Calissa Hoye led CBU with eight kills and also had an ace, block and a dig, while Ellie Voss had a strong and efficient performance. Voss had seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage (7-1-12) and also had a team-high three blocks.
Paige Johnstone and Leah Pease led the Lancers with 14 digs and 13 assists, respectively. Hana Okuhara also had nine assists and eight digs.
Sydney Marks posted five kills and a block. Christine Graf also had three kills and two blocks, while Cassidy Dennison added three kills and three digs.
The Aggies appear to be headed to their third-straight WAC title after being voted the favorites in the conference's preseason coaches poll. In fact, NMSU has won 28-straight matches in the WAC, with its last league loss coming in 2018.
This season, NM State has been dominant as usual. The team has lost just three sets and has yet to be pushed to a fifth set this year.

NMSU is coming off a 27-4 season with a perfect 16-0 conference record. Last season saw the Aggies make their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance after not dropping a single set at the WAC Tournament to cap off back-to-back conference championships.
Overall, the Aggies have made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances under Coach Mike Jordan. They have won 11 WAC titles in their history, with regular-season crowns and five more tournament titles.

CBU will regroup and prepare for two more WAC matches at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on March 1-2. Times are set for 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. Pacific, respectively. The Lancers' final home matches on the schedule are against Grand Canyon on March 8-9 before the regular-season comes to a close at Seattle U on March 22-23.
