OREM --- California Baptist University's women's soccer team played Utah Valley to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Saturday.
The Lancers won the previous matchup on Thursday, March 11, in a 2-1 fashion that saw Karley Weeks and Amy Aquino find the back of the net. With today's draw, the Lancers are now 7-1-2 on the season and tied for a WAC-best 5-1-1 with Seattle U in conference play.
UVU managed to outshoot the Lancers, 13-10, but Romy Salvador recorded five saves on the day for all 110 minutes between the sticks. Aquino led the Lancers with a team-high three shots while Ari Coronado added two to her line.
The Lancers had multiple chances to put the game away, as they recorded five corner kicks on the day, but weren't able to find the back of the net.
"I thought for playing our second game in 44 hours, we played well and controlled the majority of the game," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We created some very good scoring opportunities, and our defense was stellar, allowing very few opportunities in our defensive third. Romy was fantastic, coming up with key saves to earn the shutout. We certainly played well enough for the win, we needed to be a little sharper on the finishing end, but we'll sharpen that at training this week. We're proud of the team's effort and grit today."
CBU will welcome NM State to the OC Great Park for a two-game series on March 18 and March 20. Both games are set for 2 p.m.
