Lancers Conclude Play At WAC Championships

BOULDER CITY --- California Baptist University closed out the final round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday, as four Lancers finished inside the top-20.
Hailey Loh finished the three-day tournament as the top finisher for the Lancers, taking 14th with a 9-over-par 75-74-76=225. She carded four birdies on the day and birdied 18 for the second time in two-straight days. She also recorded the second-lowest scoring average on the par-fours with a 3.97 average.
Samantha Martirez moved up six spots on the final day and took T-17th with teammate Sofia Chabon. Martirez shot a 75-79-76=230, while Chabon signed a 77-71-82=230. Chabon finished with the fifth-best scoring average on the par-fives among the field with a 4.75 average.
Haruka Shintani finished the tournament at T-19th with a 76-73-83=232. Jocelyn Chee closed out her round, moving up one spot with an 80 to shoot a 238 total to take 31st.
With CBU in its third year of the transition process, the Lancers aren't eligible to post a team score in the standings. NM State came from behind and jumped Grand Canyon to win the WAC Championship with a 9-over-par 873 team score. It marks the second consecutive WAC Championship for the Aggies, as they've won six of the last seven WAC Championships dating back to 2014. Grand Canyon finished with a 20-over-par 308 team score in the final day to drop to second with a 16-over-par 880 team score. Seattle U held on at third with a 902 team score, while Utah Valley finished in fourth and UT Rio Grande Valley took fifth. CBU is joined by Dixie State, Tarleton, and Chicago State as the four teams competing as individuals.
Victoria Estrada of Utah Valley moved up two spots in the final day to take the individual medalist honors after a 2-under-par 74-69-71=214 total. She edged Payton Fehringer of Grand Canyon by one stroke.
