BOULDER CITY, Nev. – CBU women's golf closed out its fall season with a fifth-place finish at The Clash, securing a top-five finish in all four tournaments this fall.
The Lancers finished fifth out of 19 teams, shooting 7-under par in the opening round, 4-under in the second round and 2-under in the final round. CBU finished fifth three times and second once across its four fall tournaments.
"This last event hosted by NAU was the toughest field this fall, with several big-time schools. Very proud of how the TEAM ended on a high note and shot under par as a TEAM for all three rounds. Tons of consistency once again from Captain Pusanisa, Shuyi, Burberry, and Lisa. They have really stepped up for the TEAM throughout the entire fall semester.
"It was also nice to see freshman Crista Miñoza get more comfortable every round she played in and have her score count for two of the three rounds this tournament, ending with her first under-par round in college for the final round today.
"Lastly, it was a fun event where the TEAM was able to bond and all nine golfers got to compete. Grateful for that opportunity," said head coach Marc Machado.
Senior captain Pusanisa Ekkantrong led the Lancers, tying for eighth place at 7-under par for the tournament. She shot 1-under par in the final round, earning her second-best finish of the fall season.
Sophomore Shuyi Cao also delivered a strong performance, tying for 10th at 6-under par. Cao shot even par in the final round, matching her highest finish of the fall. She also recorded an eagle on hole nine.
Cao also made her mark in the CBU record books, tying for third in the 36-hole scoring category at 6-under par and tying for fourth in the 54-hole scoring category at 6-under par.
Freshman Crista Miñoza closed out her first fall season on a high note, shooting 1-under par in the final round for her first under-par round at CBU. She finished tied for 50th at 4-over par overall and recorded an eagle on hole 13.
Senior Burberry Zhang finished even par in the final round and 6-over par for the tournament, while junior Lisa Shimmon finished at 7-over par after shooting 1-over in the final round.
Junior Nana Ishikawa also tied for 50th at 4-over par, finishing with a 5-over-par final round. Sophomore Kornchanok Triyakul finished at 9-over par, while senior Damini Ghanshyani posted the best final round among the remaining individuals, shooting 2-over par to finish at 15-over for the tournament. Junior Abby Abarcas finished at 43-over par.
Zhang earned the CBU Clutch Award after shooting 1-over par across her final four holes. Cao received the CBU Feather Fight Award after leading the team with 12 birdies and recording one eagle during the tournament.
"Four tournaments, four top-five finishes. Consistency doesn't happen by accident. This TEAM showed up, competed with heart, and stayed committed to 'The Standard' every step of the way. Proud of the way these girls fought, competed, and played for each other from the start of the fall all the way to the very end," said Machado.
