BOULDER CITY, Nev. – CBU women's golf opened The Clash strong on Monday as senior captain Pusanisa Ekkantrong shot six-under-par to tie for fourth individually and lead the Lancers to sixth place after the first round.
CBU sits sixth out of 19 teams after a competitive opening day that included several top programs, including No. 24 Kansas.
Ekkantrong led the Lancers throughout much of the round, even sitting tied for first at one point. She finished with three consecutive birdies to close out her bogey-free round, recording six birdies overall to lead the team. Her six-under-par 66 ties for the second-lowest single-round score in program history, just two strokes shy of her own school record of 64 (-8), set last year.
Senior Burberry Zhang followed closely behind, shooting three-under-par to tie for 18th. Zhang also finished strong, recording birdies on three of her final five holes. Sophomore Shuyi Cao was third for CBU at two-under-par, tying for 27th. Cao recorded one of the highlights of the opening round with an eagle on hole 16.
Freshman Crista Miñoza followed at four-over-par, while junior Lisa Shimmon rounded out the Lancers' five-player lineup at seven-over-par.
