Lancers Start First Winning Streak of 2021 with Sweep of Montana

BROOKINGS – California Baptist University volleyball is off on its first winning streak of the season after its second-straight match against Montana (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) to open the South Dakota State Tournament on Friday.
The Lancers' offense continued to give their opposition problems, as they hit .322 as a team in the match and sided out at 71 percent. Christine Graf led the offense with a match-high 10 kills on a .421 clip (10-2-19), while setters Leah Pease and Hana Okuhara orchestrated things beautifully.
CBU improves to 2-2 on the year, while Montana drops to 2-3. The Lancers will look to keep their winning streak going when they face tournament host South Dakota State next on Saturday at 10 a.m. Pacific.
Five Lancers finished with six kills or more, with four of them hitting .333 or above. Pease finished with 17 assists, seven digs, two kills and an ace, while Okuhara had 14 kills, five digs, an ace, block and kill.
Scherine Dahoue and Tesa Oaks both had nine kills. Dahoue finished with seven digs and Oaks hit .348 (9-1-23) with four blocks and four digs. Anouk van Noord posted eight kills on a .333 percentage (8-2-18). Middle blocker Ashlyn Nevrla also hit .600 with six kills on 10 errorless swings.
Defensively, Chandler Gorman matched Oaks with a match-high four blocks. Paige Johnstone also had a team-high 11 digs, six assists and an ace. Cassidy Dennison chipped in five digs and match-high two aces, as well.
