CBU Wins Three Straight with Doubleheader Sweep of Biola and Concordia

LA MIRADA AND IRVINE – California Baptist University men's water polo swept a pair of road games, including its Western Water Polo Association opener on Thursday.
The 18th-ranked Lancers defeated Biola 16-8 at the La Mirada Splash Aquatics Center in the afternoon and then picked up a 17-9 win over Concordia at Beckham High School. PJ McDonough netted hat tricks in both games, while Tristan Felberg had double-digit saves in each outing. Zach Lowery went off, as well, with eight points in the doubleheader.
CBU has now won three games in a row, as it improves to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in WWPA play. Biola moves to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in conference, while Concordia drops to 2-6 on the year.
It's the start of a busy week for California Baptist, which will play four games in the Gary Troyer Tournament this weekend, starting with games against George Washington and Ottawa (Ariz.) at 10:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
A trio of Lancers scored hat tricks against Biola, a first-year water polo program and WWPA member. Hunter Barnett had three goals and two assists, McDonough had three goals and two assists and Joseph Griffin also had a hat trick.
Lowery had two goals, an assist and three steals in the victory, while Caleb Teraoka added four steals, three assists, won two sprints and had a field block. Felberg also had 10 saves and an assist in about 28 minutes in the cage.
Concordia kept things close early in the nightcap, as both teams were tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Lancers pulled in front with a 6-3 advantage in the second quarter and never let the Eagles back in it.
McDonough scored a game-high four goals, with three of them coming in the first quarter. Cameron Cullen also tallied his first hat trick of the season.
Lowery was phenomenal with three assists, two goals and a steal in the win. Barnett tacked on three assists and a goal, as well, while Felberg had 14 saves and a steal in the win.
