Notable Notes:
- Chicago State started the season with two wins but has since gone 2-9 to give it a 4-11 overall record on the year. This will be the Cougars' sixth home game of the season, as they are 3-2 on in the Jones Convocation Center.
- The Cougars have a brand-new coaching staff, led by head coach Gerald Gillion. He was named Chicago State's head coach last July after one season with the Samford Bulldogs and two seasons as an assistant coach at Tennessee Tech (2017-19).
- CSU returns just three players from last year's squad: Andrew Lewis, Carlo Marble and Coreyoun Rushin, with the newcomers being made up of four transfers and seven freshmen.
- Three Cougars: Brandon Betson (14.1), Jahsean Corbett (12.3) and Ali Abdou Dibba (11.5) come into this week scoring in double figures. Corbett is also second on the team with 7.1 rebounds per game while Betson leads the team with 2.6 assists.
- Abdou Dibba was promptly named the WAC Freshman of the Week on Monday. He made his collegiate debut last week and scored 21 points on 6-for-9 shooting and 8-for-11 from the free-throw line at Grand Canyon.
- Rebounding may be Chicago State's greatest strength, as it has a 36.2 to 35.9 advantage over its opponents on the boards this season. On the flip side, turnovers have been a problem for the Cougars, who average 17.5 a game compared to 13.9 from their opponents.
