REDLANDS – No. 16 California Baptist University men's water polo played a rescheduled game against the University of Redlands today after inclement weather forced a delay from the original Sept. 11 game day. It was worth the wait as CBU topped the host Bulldogs 13-9, improving to 17-9 on the year in the process.
The teams traded goals to begin and end the first period, closing out the opening eight minutes tied at 2-2. The Lancers opened things up in the second and third periods, outscoring U of R 9-3. Jacob Sill secured a hat trick during that stretch, netting one in the second before putting away back-to-back goals to close out scoring for the Lancers in the third.
The Bulldogs would not go down without a fight and outscored CBU 4-2 in the final frame, but the Lancer lead was simply too much to overcome in a single period.
Tristan Felberg started in goal for CBU, stopping five and collecting one steal. Trevor Benge closed out the game in the cage, also stopping five shots while also collecting a steal and an assist.
Sill was the only player to record a hat trick at Thompson Aquatic Center on Thursday, but teammates Angel Sanchez and freshman Toring Stanley each added two goals to the Lancer effort.
Up next for CBU is a trip up north to Santa Clara to take on the Broncos. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
