
CBU Women's Cross Country Wins Pre-Nationals Race at Oklahoma State; Men Take Second Place

Stillwater, Okla. - The California Baptist University men's and women's cross country programs had outstanding performances on Saturday morning as the women claimed the 6k title and the men finished runner-up in the 8k at the Weis-Crockett Invitational/Pre-Nationals hosted by Oklahoma State University.
Entering the event, the CBU women were tied No. 19 nationally with fellow Western Athletic Conference member Utah Valley and No. 4 in the West Region in the polls. Today's field on the women's side was highlighted by host No. 3 Oklahoma State among others such as Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Purdue, UCLA and Washington State. The competition also included a Liberty squad that was just outside the national Top 30 in the latest poll as well as WAC member Abilene Christian.
CBU won the team title with 50 points as host OSU finished runner-up with 76 points. Wyoming, Liberty and Washington State finished third through fifth, respectively.
Individually on the women's side, Yasna Petrova posted the top time for the Lancers at 20:22.3 for a second place finish overall. Oklahoma State's Billah Jepkirui claimed the individual title with a time of 20:15.3. CBU's Greta Karinauskaite finished in fifth place with a time of 20:38.4 while Maelle Porcher came in 11th place (21:01.4), Carlota Rodes in 14th place (21:10.8) and Anna Mate in 20th place (21:22.2) to round out the scoring.
Individually on the men's side, Montana State's Duncan Hamilton registered the top time at 23:28.8. Giedrius Valincius (23:46.8) clockied the best time for the Lancers and finished in ninth place, Florian Le Pallec (23:51.1) in 11th place, Arturs Medveds (23:58.5) in 19th place and Matias Reynaga (24:07.1) in 23rd place to fulfill CBU's team score.

The field also included nationally ranked teams in host No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 21 Arkansas as well as a Butler team that received votes in the latest Top 30 poll. Additionally, the event included Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Pittsburg, Purdue, Washington State and WAC member Abilene Christian among others. Butler (third), Arkansas (fourth) and UCLA (fifth) rounded out the Top 5 teams in today's race.The women win the 6K at Pre-Nats!

Next up for the Lancers is the WAC Championships being hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas on Oct. 29. The men are the defending champs as winners of back-to-back conference championships.
