
Volleyball Hosts WAC Leading UTRGV In Riverside

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University volleyball hosted the second of three consecutive home matches on Saturday, welcoming the undefeated University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros to town. UTRGV came in winners of seven straight and sitting atop the WAC standings. They left with a hard-fought three-set victory over the Lancers.
Two sets were decided by just two points, with the other a four-point difference (23-25, 21-25, 24-26). Neither team will write home about their hitting percentages from this afternoon, and they both checked in at .202 or below for the match.
Scherine Dahoue and Michalina Rola led the Lancers in kills with 12 and 11, respectively. Cristina Graf led the way defensively at the net, collecting six blocks, with Chandler Gorman and Laura Walewska posting five each. Gorman also added a game-high three aces. Paige Johnstone put up a double-double, digging out 18 balls and setting up 10 assists.
Today's result drops CBU to 8-12 on the year and 3-6 in WAC play. The Vaqueros continue to cruise through the conference, now with a 19-4 record overall and 8-0 in league. The Vaqueros have dropped just seven sets through eight matches in WAC action.
CBU will host Sam Houston on October 27. The Bearkats come to Riverside with the weight of a six-game losing streak on their shoulders after starting the conference season 3-1. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
