Riverside--- The California Baptist University's men's soccer team battled Western Athletic Conference foe UNLV to a 1-1 tie on Friday night at the CBU Soccer Stadium.
"While our approach up until their goal was not up to our standards, our response after the goal was excellent and we were unfortunate not to win it in the end," said head coach Coe Michaelson after the game. "The game teaches us lessons we have to learn or we will get punished. Hopefully we can take a lesson from this game and come put together 90 good minutes on Senior Day."
The Lancers were on the attack throughout the game, shooting 22 times including the eight they put on goal. Forward Bryan Iliohan led the Lancers with eight total shots taken, while forward Luis Mueller and defender Antonio Gomez finished with three shots apiece.
In the first half, goalkeeper Nolan Premack made his lone save of the game count with a diving grab, after a UNLV attacker weaved his way through the Lancer defense, keeping the Rebels off the board before halftime.
The UNLV defense survived the Lancers barrage of goals with seven total saves, including four in the second half.
After a hard-fought battle and with the game in the balance, Iliohan scored the Lancers goal in the 83rd minute on a textbook set up from teammates Adolfo Pino and Brian Gonzalez to tie the game at one-all where it would ultimately remain.
The tie brought the Lancers record to 3-2-2 in conference play and 7-5-3 overall. UNLV's record moved to 0-4-3 in WAC play and 1-7-7 overall.
The Lancers will host Utah Tech at the CBU Soccer Stadium for their Senior Night on Sunday Oct. 30. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
