RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University's women's basketball team is home after a tough pair of games in Texas against Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. After the weekend's results, the Lancers sit a 15-4 overall and 6-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.
CBU is currently tied for second place in the conference with Saturday's opponent, Grand Canyon. The Lopes and Lancers each battled with and fell to Stephen F. Austin in their previous game. The Jacks hold the only unbeaten conference record at 8-0.
Caitlyn Harper (18.7) and Ane Olaeta (15.8) are first and third in WAC scoring average this season, with Olaeta still setting the bar in the WAC in assists-per-game with 7.4. Sydney Palma had her best weekend of the season so far, averaging 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on 56.3% shooting from the field.

NM State's Bigue Sarr leads the team offensively at 13.2 points per game and rebounding, collecting 7.8 misses per contest. It's clear that the Aggies share the scoring workload as they have had four different game-high scorers in their last four games.

GCU took on SFA in Phoenix on Monday in a rescheduled game from a postponed match originally scheduled for January 20. The Lopes managed to lead the Ladyjacks for over half of the game, but SFA used a 16-2 third quarter to take control, before putting it away with a 20-11 fourth period.
CBU is the offensive yin to the GCU defensive yang in conference stat categories. The Lancers are top-three in field goal percentage, points-per-game, and tops in team rebounding and assists, but the Lopes make their living disrupting offenses by forcing 24.4 turnovers per game behind a conference-best 14.3 steals per contest.
The difference in this game may come down to the free-throw line. CBU has struggled from the 15-foot line much of the year, while GCU commits more fouls and sends more opponents to the charity stripe than anyone else in the WAC.
