2/10/2022 7:17:00 PM | Women's Basketball
BEAUMONT – California Baptist women's basketball got back in the win column in a big way, defeating Lamar 71-56 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. CBU improves to 17-5 on the season and 8-3 in Western Athletic Conference contests. The win also propels CBU back into a tie for second place in the WAC standings as Grand Canyon fell to Utah Valley in Phoenix on Thursday night.
Ane Olaeta (18), Caitlyn Harper (17) and Trinity San Antonio (10) shouldered the bulk of the Lancers' scoring duties, but Olaeta truly led the way. The senior point guard also led the game in rebounds (seven), assists (six) and minutes played (35).
Harper was a menace on both ends of the court, blocking three Cardinal shots while protecting the rim and allowing Lamar just 10 points in the paint during the game.
CBU scored just 10 points in the first quarter, but found its rhythm in the second and third quarters to the tune of 47 points on 19-34 (55.8%) shooting from the floor. The Lancers dominated nearly every measurable of the game, finishing +7 in rebounds, +5 in assists, +8 in second chance points and +30 in points in the paint.
UP NEXT
The Lancers head to South Texas to take on the Vaqueros of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. CBU will look to extend its three-game winning streak over UTRGV with a tip-off set for 10 a.m. Pacific on Saturday morning.
