CBU Battles #15 Duke In Tempe

TEMPE – California Baptist University softball was back at it early Friday morning, facing off with ACC powerhouse #15/20 Duke in the second game of the 2022 season. The Lancers scored four runs in the top of the first off of USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List honoree Shelby Walters, but the Blue Devils proved their preseason ranking and took the contest by a score of 15-4.

The Lancers' record moves to 0-2 on the season after opening against a pair of top-21 teams in Arizona State and Duke. CBU took advantage of three Duke errors in the opening frame to score all four Lancer runs. Makayla Jordan led the day by going 1-1 with an RBI and a stolen base.

UP NEXT

California Baptist will play its first doubleheader of the season on Saturday with another early start on the schedule. The Lancers will first take on #2/5 Oklahoma State at 8 a.m. Pacific followed by a game against Missouri State, which is scheduled to begin around 1 p.m., Pacific.
