RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University women's basketball guard Ane Olaeta has accepted an invitation to attend the ProHoops Combine in Minneapolis, Minn., on April 2. The Basque Country native is pursuing a professional basketball career since her time at CBU is completed, whether that is in the WNBA or in an international league is yet to be determined.
"It is a great opportunity for Ane. She has a bright future ahead of her and this is a good first step on that journey," CBU Head Coach Jarrod Olson said of Olaeta's invite to the elite showcase.
The event places top graduating seniors in front of WNBA and international scouts ahead of the WNBA Draft on April 11. The combine takes place in Minneapolis during the same weekend of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Final Four games.
Olaeta finished her Lancer career plastered all over the CBU record book, most notably having set the new program record for career assists with 874, scoring the fifth-most points in program history 1,805, and appearing in the most games of any Lancer, 146.
During the 2020-21 COVID impacted season, Olaeta led the Lancers to a 26-1 record and the best winning percentage of all NCAA Division I programs at .963. She also led the nation in assists-per-game that season, dishing them out at a 7.8 per game clip. Her efforts were rewarded by being named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, as well as receiving the Joe Kearney Award, honoring the top overall female and male athletes in the conference.
As a follow-up to that historic season, Olaeta reached many milestones during the 2021-22 season, upping her overall game to have arguably the best season of her career. She set new career-highs with 15.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game, while still maintaining an average of over seven assists per contest. She would go on to be named an all-conference first teamer and WAC Defensive Player of the Year.
