
Lancers Open 2022 Season at Charleston Southern Tournament

CHARLESTON – California Baptist University volleyball opened the 2022 season with a doubleheader at the Charleston Southern Tournament on Friday.
Scherine Dahoue amassed double-digit kills in both matches, but the Lancers fell to St. John's and Appalachian State. Dahoue finished with 25 kills on the day, while Paige Johnstone had a team-high 21 digs and three aces. CBU begins the season with an 0-2 record, while St. John's and Appalachian State start out 1-0.
Three Lancers logged double-digit kills to open the season, as CBU dropped a four-set match to St. John's of the Big East Conference on set scores of 25-21, 32-34, 25-20, 25-15. Cassidy Dennison had a double-double with 14 digs and 13 kills. Christine Graf led the team with 16.5 points on 14 kills on a .417 hitting percentage and five blocks. Dahoue completed the trio with 12 kills.
Leah Pease and Reese Reed split time at setter on Friday. Pease, a senior, had 25 assists and five digs while the true freshman Reed had 14 assists, five digs and an ace in the first match. Johnstone, the libero, added three aces, seven digs and seven assists. Middle blockers Chandler Gorman and Laura Walewska each had five blocks.
In the finale against Appalachian State, Dahoue led CBU with 13 kills and seven digs while Johnstone had 14 digs. Pease (18 assists, six digs) and Reed (16, seven) each logged at least 16 assists and six digs.
Michalina Rola, a transfer from Miami, notched nine kills for her first highlight performance as a Lancer. Christine Graf added eight kills to her season total.

California Baptist ends the first weekend of the season against tournament host Charleston Southern on Saturday, Aug. 27. First serve is set for 7 a.m. Pacific. The Lancers will then head to the Washington State Tournament where it will face the host Cougars on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. and CSU Bakersfield and Belmont on Sept. 2.
The Lancers will then make their home debut when it hosts the CBU Tournament on Sept. 9-10. CBU will face Idaho State first on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. and then Air Force and UC Riverside on at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, on Sept. 10.
