CBU Open Cougar Challenge Against Host Washington State

PULLMAN – California Baptist University volleyball faced its largest test yet in the young 2022 season on Thursday. The Lancers faced Washington State to start the second week of the year at the Cougar Challenge.
Libero Paige Johnstone matched her season-high of 17 digs for the second match in a row, but the Cougars came away with the straight-set win 25-9, 25-13, 25-21.
Washington State, a Power 5 opponent in the Pac-12 Conference, improves to 3-1 this season as it aims to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the seventh-straight season. CBU moves to 1-3 on the year after the loss to the Cougars, who put together a 20-win season in 2021.
Cassidy Dennison and Christine Graf finished tied with a team-high six kills. Leah Pease had 13 assists, three digs and an ace.

The Lancers continue the Cougar Challenge with neutral-site matches against CSU Bakersfield and Belmont on Friday, Sept. 2 at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively. CBU will then make its home debut as it hosts a tournament on Sept. 9-10. The Lancers' home debut will be against Idaho State on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. They'll go on to face Air Force and UC Riverside in the Crosstown Showdown on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
