Lancers Maintain Unbeaten Home Record against CSU Bakersfield

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University men's soccer hosted former WAC foe and current Big West member Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night, playing to a scoreless draw after 90 minutes. The Lancers remain unbeaten at CBU Soccer Stadium, now owning a record of 3-2-1 on the season while CSUB moves to 2-3-1.
"There were a lot of things we did well tonight, but we obviously need to improve our play in the final 1/3. Possession is nice, but we have to translate it into more incisive play in and around the goal," remarked Head Coach Coe Michaelson after the game. "This won't be the last team that is happy to play for a draw against us. It's a mark of respect and they showed great resilience to grind out the draw. Now it's on us to get better in how we go about breaking teams down in this situation."
On paper, CBU controlled most of the game, outshooting Bakersfield 8-7 and posting a 5-1 corner kick advantage by the end of regulation.
Anthony Vargas led the Lancers with three shots on the night, putting one on goal. Freshmen Adolfo Pino and Geuchane Kinzunze also forced the Roadrunner keeper to make a save. CBU goalkeeper Nolan Premack collected his second shutout of the season, making a pair of saves to earn that clean sheet.
The Lancers are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to face the Golden Eagles from Oral Roberts University on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Pacific time.
