RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University men's soccer set the bar high on Monday night, treating a crowd of 1,196 Lancer fans to an exciting 2-0 victory over San Diego. "San Diego provided a very stiff test tonight, but once we settled in we did some good things, and we are happy to get a tough win in front of a great crowd that provided an example of CBU soccer's potential," said Head Coach Coe Michaelson after the game. "We want to build a special soccer culture at our school and for this community, and tonight showed the excitement surrounding this program. Not many places around the country generate an atmosphere like that in college soccer. We look forward to many more nights like this."
The first half came and went as a scoreless 45 minutes with the Toreros putting out the only solid shot on goal, which Lancer goalkeeper Nolan Premack denied spectacularly. The Toreros let loose a flurry of attempts late in the game, but none managed to find the back of the net as Premack stopped a career-high eight shots.

The second half was a whole new game as the Lancers came out attacking and pressuring San Diego until the Toreros finally succumbed in the 50th minute. Luis Mueller collected a long assist from Bryan Iliohan, raced down the left side and into the 18-yard box, slammed on the brakes as his defender went sprinting past, took one step back and fired a bending shot into the net just inside the far post.
