RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University Lancers faced off against the Tarleton State Texans, with both teams entering the contest at an even 3-3 conference record. The Lancers owned a perfect record against Tarleton State heading into the match, taking each of the last three games. That did not change in this game, as the Lancers prevailed 77-48 behind excellent perimeter shooting and shut-down defense
The Lancers broke their conference tie with the Texans, improved to 4-3, and increased their home record to an impressive 9-3 mark.
In the first half, the Lancers shot the ball well from deep, hitting six three with four of them via Reed Nottage. CBU hit the glass well, pulling down 21 rebounds. Nottage led all scorers with 12 at the break and gave the Lancers the largest halftime lead of their conference slate thus far at 14.
In the second half, the Lancers broke the game opening a 19-5 run to take a commanding 20-point lead early in the period. The Lancers continued to pour it on from the perimeter, adding seven more to their total.
The Lancers hit 13 three-pointers on the night, two off their season high. The defense clamped down on the Texans, who came into the contest averaging 72 points per game on 45% shooting. The Lancers held them to an astonishing 48 points on 30% shooting, both of which were season highs for the CBU defense. The #30 ranked perimeter defense of CBU was also on full display with Tarleton only connecting on one of their 13 attempts from behind the arc. The Lancers posted three in double figures with Joe Quintana (16 points), Nottage (12 points), and Riley Battin (10 points).
Next up, the Lancers will hit the road to Texas for two games in the Lone Star State. The first will be against WAC newcomer UT Arlington on Wednesday, January 5th, at 5 p.m.
