VB Preview: CBU Volleyball Heads Back to Texas to Battle UTRGV

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's volleyball will head back on the road to Texas to face the UTRGV Vaqueros in conference play this coming Saturday.
The Lancers are on a three-game slide with losses to Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, and UT Arlington, while the Vaqueros are riding a four-game winning streak that includes sweeps of Southern Utah, Utah Tech, Seattle U, and Utah Valley. UTRGV is the defending regular-season champion of the Western Athletic Conference and is currently second in the standings behind SFA. Meanwhile, the Lancers are tied for fifth in the conference standings and hold a 10-7 record on the year.
The matchup history between the two programs has seen the Vaqueros emerge victorious in six of the seven matches, with the lone Lancer win coming in 2020 in a sweep at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. The single match in 2022 occurred in Riverside, where the Vaqueros swept the Lancers en route to winning the WAC regular season title.
Statistically, the Lancers continue to be led by Michalina Rola with 221 kills, good enough for sixth in the WAC in that department. Meanwhile, Laura Walewska is second in the conference, hitting % at .374, leading the Lancers in solo blocks, and is second in total blocks.

Defensively, CBU has been awarded two WAC Liberos of the Week this season, with Mia Jerue winning early in the season and the most recent winner being Brianna Young. Jerue leads the Lancers in digs at 224 and aces with 29. Jerue's 29 aces are currently the best mark in the WAC and in the top 50 in the nation. Jerue has also helped the Lancers rank in the top 50 in the country in total aces and aces per set.
