
The Lancers End Texas Road Trip in Edinburg

EDINBURG--- In the third leg of the California Baptist University women's volleyball Texas road trip, the Lancers fell in three sets to the reigning Western Athletic Conference champions, the Unviersity of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
The loss dropped CBU to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Vaqueros move to 6-2 in WAC play, sliding them into a firm position at third in the conference standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lancers began the first set with a 3-0 run that concluded with a Mia Jerue ace. The Vaqueros responded with a 3-0 run of their own to even the score at six. The opening period was indeed a game of runs as both teams engaged each other in offensive spurts. The Vaqueros emerged victorious 25-22, closing out the Lancers with a pair of kills.
The home team dominated the second and third sets as the Vaqueros utilized efficient offense and gritty defense to win in three sets. The Lancers put together several impressive offensive sequences in the loss, including a powerful kill by freshman Nicole Mauser off a pass by Leah Pease that was lobbed in as soft as mittens.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
The Lancers continued to show their prowess in their serving, holding the three-to-one advantage over UTRGV in aces with one apiece by Michalina Rola, Jerue, and Logan Manley.
Mauser led the team in kills at nine, with Rola behind her with eight. Jerue and Young both registered double-digit digs with 14 and 16, respectively.
NEXT: The Lancers will return to Riverside to welcome in Grand Canyon on Monday, October 16 at 7 p.m. in the Dale E. & Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center.
