CBU Closes Out Aggie Invite with Ranked Doubleheader

DAVIS, CALIF. – California Baptist University women's water polo played two more games on Sunday to finish its trip up north to Davis, keeping both close but ultimately succumbing to both #19 San Jose State and #17, 11-7 and 11-9, respectively.

GAME ONE: SJSU 11 – CBU 7

CBU kept this match tight, trading goals with the Spartans for the entire first half and going into the break with a 4-4 tie. SJSU would begin to put it away after the break, opening the second half with three-straight scores before CBU added one in the final minute. They padded that lead in the fourth, pulling away with two late scores to secure the 11-7 final score.

Jamie Hutton led the way in game one with a pair of scores, an assist, a steal, and a drawn exclusion. Dora Lehoczky scored one and assisted on another two against the Spartans, and Kyndall Burrell recorded a goal, an assist, and three steals in the effort.

GAME TWO: UC DAVIS 11 – CBU 9

The host Aggies got off to a strong start, leading 7-4 after the first two quarters. The Lancers stormed back in the third, outscoring UC Davis 4-1 to go into the fourth tied at 8-all. The Aggie defense showed up in a big way in the fourth, paving the way for UCD to score three unanswered goals before CBU netted one in the final seconds.

Maddie Schwegler recorded her first hat trick of the season in the tournament finale, with Lehoczky posting another multi-point game on Saturday, tucking in a pair of goals. Cayleigh Carter recorded a pair of assists for CBU. Freshman keeper Tyanna Schneider protected the goal for all 64 minutes of today's action, stopping 19 shots and nabbing a trio of steals.

The Lancers are back in action next week in their fifth tournament of the season, heading all the way to the Eastern Time Zone to participate in the Indiana Classic. Action begins Saturday with two games, the first against Occidental at 10:00 a.m. before facing St. Francis at 4:15 p.m. Pacific time.
