Lancers Sweep Day One at the Indiana Classic

BLOOMINGTON, IN – California Baptist University women's water polo put two more in the win column with wins over Occidental College, 25-6, and Saint Francis, 17-15. This improves the Lancers' season record to 8-9 midway through the season.

GAME ONE: CBU 25 – OCCIDENTAL 6

The Lancers put this away early, opening play with a 6-0 run halfway through the first quarter, eventually taking a 12-3 lead into the break. They poured it on in the third, outscoring the Tigers 7-1 after halftime and closing out with a 5-2 fourth quarter.

Anielysa Mena paced CBU on offense, nearly doubling her season goal total in the game, scoring six times to get 10 on the season. Jamie Hutton added four, while Dora Lehoczky and Morgan Gates each netted a hat trick in the windfall.

Starting goalie Ava Ratajczak stopped a game-high eight shots while getting in on a lot of offensive action with three assists and a goal.

GAME TWO: CBU 17 – SAINT FRANCIS 15

The nightcap was a completely different story as the Red Flash of Saint Francis University kept the second game much closer, always within three goals. SFU posted three players with a hat trick or, better, a stat matched by the Lancers.

It looked much the same early as CBU got out to a 3-0 lead, but the Red Flash brought it back to an 8-6 difference by halftime. The Flash took an 11-10 lead in the third period and tied it at 14-all midway through the fourth. That's when CBU turned on the jets and put it away with three-straight goals to get to 17-14 before Saint Francis put in the final score with over two minutes left in the game.

The Lancers Indiana trip will conclude after two more games tomorrow, the first against Salem University at 7:30 a.m. Pacific before finishing the tournament against 13th-ranked Wagner at 11:15 a.m. Pacific.
