OREM--- California Baptist University and the Utah Valley Wolverines faced each other for the tenth time, with this matchup taking place in Orem. The Wolverines led wire to wire in the game and grabbed their tenth conference win of the season by a score of 71-55.
The win kept the Wolverines first in the Western Athletic Conference standings as the Lancers fell to 5-7 in WAC play.
The Lancers had a rocky start in the first half with nine early turnovers and struggled to find their offensive rhythm. CBU shook off those early struggles and brought the score to within six points before the wolverines got CBU in foul trouble and led 34-23 at the half. Taran Armstrong, Riley Battin, and Hunter Goodrick scored five apiece to lead the scoring. Tim Ighoefe gave CBU a much-needed defensive presence off the bench with three blocks and a pair of rebounds.
In the second half, the Wolverines never relinquished their lead despite struggling shooting to shoot from the perimeter. CBU could not connect from distance and ended up 3-14 in the road loss. Blondeau Tchoukueigno put together a solid second half, scoring ten of his 12 points in the final frame.
Goodrick and Battin combined for 23 points. Taran Armstrong hauled in eight rebounds for the Lancers, which was only one off his season high.
Next, the Lancers return to Riverside for their Homecoming game against the Nex Mexico State Aggies on Saturday, February 8th at 7 p.m.
