ARLINGTON--- The 2023 Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament bracket is set, with California Baptist earning the #4 seed and a first-round bye. The Lancers have earned a bye in the first round every season they have been eligible for the conference tournament.
The Lancers finished the regular season 17-12 with a 13-5 conference record. CBU won six of their final seven games, including wins at Abilene Christian and at home over Utah Tech.
Three players finished averaging double-figures in Trinity San Antonio, Grace Schmidt and Chloe Webb. San Antonio led CBU averaging 15.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and four apg. Schmidt was a six-time WAC Freshman of the Week and put together a stellar campaign, with averages of 13.2 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
Stephen F. Austin claimed the top seed for the second straight year, despite not winning the regular season crown due to the WAC Resume Seeding System. Southern Utah and Grand Canyon joined SFA and CBU as teams with an opening-round bye.
CBU won the tournament in 2021 after an undefeated regular season, and WAC Vegas won their matchups over New Mexico State and Grand Canyon before falling in the third round of the WNIT to Rice.
The Lancers will await the winner of the Utah Tech vs. Utah Valley game that will take place on Monday, March 6, at 2 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
