RIVERSIDE--- Dominique Daniels Jr. has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week after a 39-point explosion against Southern Utah on Saturday evening.
Daniels led the Lancers to a third straight conference victory by setting the DI program record for points in a single game (39) and tying the free throw record (13). Daniels also connected on a season-high six triples in the contest and scored 24 of his 39 in the second half alone. The 39 points tied Daniels Jr. for the third-most points scored in a single game in the NCAA this season and was the most scored by a WAC player.
Daniels Jr. leads the Lancers in scoring at 19 per contest and, after Saturday night, has recorded three 30-point performances on the year. He is second in the conference in both scoring and three-pointers made behind Tyon Grant-Foster of Grand Canyon and Cameron Tyson of Seattle U, respectively.
Daniels Jr. and the Lancers are back in action this Thursday with a road trip to Edinburg to take on the UTRGV Vaqueros at 4:30 PM PT.
