RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University STUNT team is back in action at the beginning of February as the reigning three-time national champions will begin their season in Phoenix, Arizona. The squad returns to the mat after another victorious season in 2023, where they saw the program reach new heights with an all-time program record of 56-0.
In Brandon Seagondollar's fourth season as head coach, STUNT has now been recognized as an NCAA emerging sport and must adhere to NCAA regulations. There are currently 15 DI university programs with STUNT programs, including familiar foes like Grand Canyon and Power 5 schools like Michigan State. The only SEC school with a STUNT program is the University of Kentucky, which has competed closely with Seagondollar's squad for the last few years.
Several seniors are returning to the mat for the Lancers, including flyer Breanna Gonzalez and base Sadie Hackford. A notable pickup for the Lancers is Tegan Uemoto, a graduate student from Boise State and Blue Collar Bronco. CBU also landed talented freshman Maddison Arochi, a local product from Southern California and high school back-to-back STUNT champion. The Lancers round out their squad with 37 total student-athletes.
California Baptist is set to participate in several quality tournaments this season as they begin the year at the ASU STUNT Tournament and host their own for the third year. The Joust will occur in the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Event Center with five college STUNT programs in a two-day tournament. Additionally, the Lancers will host five home games against local squads, including Vanguard University, Hope International, and Concordia University Irvine. CBU will end the season with a opportunity for their fourth national championship title in Lexington, Kentucky, as the University of Kentucky will host the championship site.
