ST. GEORGE, UT--- The California Baptist University volleyball team ended its extended conference road trip in St. George on Saturday afternoon, falling to Utah Tech in three sets. The loss dropped CBU to 1-5 in Western Athletic Conference play and gave the Trailblazers a 4-2 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The opening set was a hotly-contested battle, with both squads holding leads as many as four in the frame. The score was tied at 21 all before the Trailblazers found some offensive rhythm and scored four of the next six points to claim the opening set 25-23 over the Lancers.
Utah Tech would gain an early advantage in the second set, and despite the Lancers tying the frame on several occasions, the home team would not relinquish the lead and used a 6-2 run in the waning points of the set to ride out the victory. The Trailblazers dominated the third set, building a sizeable lead over CBU and settling on the final score of 25-15 to wrap the match in three sets.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
Mia Jerue nearly collected a double-double with a team-high 11 kills to pair with nine digs, while setter Reese Reed did earn the double-double with a 26-assist 10-dig performance. Amanda Darling continues to rack up the digs this season, collecting 22 of them in the match.
NEXT: The Lancers will return home to Riverside to take on Tarleton on Thursday, October 17, at 5 PM in Van Dyne Gym.
