VB Preview: CBU Welcomes Southern Utah and Seattle U to Riverside

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University volleyball team is set to host two home matches this week, with Southern Utah and Seattle U heading to Riverside for Western Athletic Conference clashes.
The first match of the week will be on Thursday evening with Southern Utah as the Lancers look to avenge a three-set loss they endured a few weeks ago in Cedar City. The Thunderbirds are 4-4 in conference play but have been unable to get in the win column since their last meeting with CBU on October 10. Historically, CBU has never lost at home to the Thunderbirds, defeating them in all three contests at Van Dyne Gym. In the last meeting, SUU bested the Lancers in straight sets, including a resounding 25-6 score in the final set.
The final match of the week will be CBU's first look at the Seattle U Redhawks in a Saturday matinee. The Redhawks are coming off a perfect record last week when they bested both Southern Utah and Abilene Christian at home in seven total sets. Seattle U is 3-5 in WAC play, and their only other win came against Tarleton. The Lancers have gotten the better of the Redhawks in the all-time series with a 7-1 overall record against the Seattle-based squad. CBU has not lost a set to Seattle U since November of 2019, claiming victories in each of the last four matchups. The Redhawks will host UT Arlington on Thursday evening before making the trek down to Riverside on Saturday.
CBU will look to get back on the winning track in conference play as they currently sit at 1-7 with a pair of tough five-set losses last week against Tarleton and Utah Valley. Four of CBU's seven WAC defeats have occurred in five-set matches. The Lancers will look to gain momentum behind its star opposite hitter and reigning WAC Freshman of the Year, Nicole Mauser. Mauser recorded a career-high 23 kills last week against Tarleton and totaled 35 kills during the week for CBU. Mauser currently leads the team in kills with 153 and is fourth on the team in blocks with 31.
