RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University volleyball team picked up its second conference win of the season on Thursday night, and they dominated the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in a four-set victory.
The win came on the back of a career performance from senior opposite hitter Eliana Posada, who was a force on both ends for the Lancers in the win. The victory moves CBU to 2-7 in conference play and keeps the Lancers unbeaten at home against Southern Utah in the all-time series at 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Thunderbirds would draw first blood in the match, opening a 4-0 start for the visiting squad, eventually leading to an early Branden Higa timeout. The Lancers would tighten things up in the inaugural set, tying the game at 21 apiece before the Thunderbirds would rattle off four of the final five points to take the 1-0 lead.
The second frame was a tour-de-force by the Lancers, beginning with an 11-4 start to the period to force a Southern Utah timeout. CBU's blocking game was strong in the period and would fuel the Lancers dominant 25-11 victory to tie the match at one apiece. The 14-point disparity was the largest in a single set for CBU this season. The momentum from set two spilled over into the third set as the Lancers would come out firing on all cylinders in the period. A 6-0 Lancer run in the middle of the frame would give CBU its largest lead at 20-14 and force the Thunderbirds to spend both of their timeouts. Nicole Mauser would end the set with an emphatic swipe off a perfect pass from Reese Reed to give CBU the lead at 2-1.
In what proved to be the final set, the Lancers would showcase its dominance on both ends with an early 8-0 that featured multiple blocks and kills to force Southern Utah into another early huddle. The Thunderbirds would battle back to bring the score to a manageable distance, but the damage was already done, and a CBU 8-4 run would finish the deal for the 25-18 result. Toree Tiffee, who stepped in as libero for CBU, would end the match with an ace to give CBU the 3-1 victory.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:

The senior hitter set multiple personal bests in the contest, with new highs in points, blocks, kills, and solo blocks. Posada posted 22.5 points with 17 kills and eight total blocks, including three solo rejections. Posada was the driving force on both ends for CBU, leading the team in both categories.
Mauser continued her recent hot streak by tying Posada in kills with 17 and doing so on a season-high .484 hitting percentage. Amanda Darling also had a night to remember, surpassing 1,000 career digs in the match. Darling has been a standout for CBU on the defensive end this season and clocked in another 19 digs in this game. Madison Gilliland was another standout for CBU, racking up seven total blocks and a season-high three aces.
