RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University volleyball team will hit the road this week as they head to the Lone Star State for a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches.
The Lancers are coming off a successful 2-0 week in which they bested Southern Utah in four sets and swept the Seattle U Redhawks in the friendly confines of the Van Dyne Gym. CBU is 3-7 heading into the week, putting them in a three-way tie for 6th place in the standings with Abilene Christian and Seattle U.
The first matchup of the week will be on Thursday evening as they head to Stephenville, Texas, to take on the Tarleton Texans. In the first meeting between these two programs this season, Tarleton emerged victorious after a hard-fought five-set match in Riverside. Nicole Masuer set a career-high in kills in the loss with 23 and was one of four Lancers in double-digits in the kill department. CBU also set a season-best with 76 digs in the match, including 21 from Mia Jerue. The Texans are 2-8 in WAC play after besting Abilene Christian in their most recent outing as the Lancers look to even up the season series at Wisdom Gym.
In the final match of the week, the Lancers will travel to Arlington for a meeting with the undefeated Mavericks. UTA is one of the top teams in the country, currently boasting a 20-2 overall record that is tied for the 6th-best mark in the country. CBU pushed the Mavericks to the limit in late September in the first meeting of the season, falling to them in five sets in Riverside. UTA had CBU on the ropes with a 2-0 lead before the Lancers roared back in sets three and four to force the decisive fifth set. CBU's service game was a large factor in the tight match, registering ten aces, including five from Kali Wolf.
