RIVERSIDE--- Championship season has begun for the California Baptist University cross-country team as they embark on a trip to Orem, Utah, for the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, November 1.
The men's team was picked first in the coach's poll, while the women were picked as the runner-up behind Utah Valley. The men have been picked as the favorites for the past three seasons and are seeking their 5th-straight WAC title and 6th overall title.
The men enter championships season as the 14th-best team in the nation after solid showings at the Joe Piane Invite and, most recently, at the NCAA DI Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. Zouhair Redouane, Valentin Soca, and Daniel Abdala lead a deep team for the Lancers that has gained significant notoriety heading into postseason play. Redouane has won the WAC runner of the week on three separate occasions and finished in the top 10 at Pre-Nationals for new Head Coach Sean Smith.
On the women's side, the Lancers were picked second in the coaches poll behind UVU, reflecting the result at last season's WAC Championships in Abilene, TX. The women are looking to capture their fifth overall title since joining the conference in 2018. Grad Student Yasna Petrova leads a very young squad for CBU as they look to gain momentum heading into Regionals.
The WAC Championships will take place at Lakeside Park in Orem, Utah, with the women starting at 9 AM PT and the men at 9:45 AM PT.
