Lancers Double Their Wins in Pomona

POMONA, CA--- The California Baptist men's water polo opened up the weekend at the Gary Troyer Tournament, picking up a pair of wins over Mount St. Mary and Wagner. The Lancers kicked off the day with a 15-10 win over the Mountaineers before ending the evening with a 14-11 victory against the Seahawks. CBU improves to 8-7 on the season with their pair of wins in Pomona on Friday.

CBU 15 - MSMU 10

California Baptist came out from the gates on fire, scoring five goals in quick succession in the first period while limiting the Mountaineers to just two. Mount St. Mary's woke up in the second period and put up much more of a fight after going a 3-2 run to put themselves within two goals at the half.

Alex Righetti helped pace the Lancers in the third period after putting away a pair of goals, contributing to six in total for CBU during the quarter. The Mountaineers continued to chip away at the lead and found the back of the cage thrice but ultimately were unable to keep up with CBU's attack.

CBU 14 - WAGNER 11

The second game of the day for the Lancers proved to be more competitive as they faced a solid Seahawk squad. The first period went without a goal for nearly four minutes before Wagner found the back of the net for the first time and gave themselves an early lead. Caleb Teraoka found the back of the net twice in a row to help CBU keep up, as the squads would go on to trade to lead through the second period.

Ahead by one goal, the Lancers continued to dent the twine and pushed past the Seahawks toward the end of the third period after Teraoka unleashed another three goals on Wagner's goalie. Each squad put up a pair of goals in the fourth period, but CBU had already secured the lead with their solid attack during the previous quarter to ensure their second win of the day.

Teraoka ended the doubleheader with eight goals under his belt and a pair of assists. Bodhi Bowden tallied six goals, and Righetti found the back of the net five times to lead the squad on Friday. The Lancers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon for the second day of the Gary Troyer Tournament, kicking off against Long Beach State at 1 p.m.
