Utah Proves Fruitful For CBU Swim Teams

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - The California Baptist men's and women's swim teams took part in the first three-day meet of the season this weekend, visiting Western Athletic Conference foe Utah Tech for the Trailblazer Invitational, where the men placed third out of five teams, and the women took sixth of 11. Of the five programs that brought both teams, CBU finished behind UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara but ahead of Pacific and Cal State Bakersfield.
Remi Fabiani had arguably the best weekend overall, finding his way to the top of the podium four times, thrice individually and once as part of a relay. His weekend was highlighted with a pair of program records, first in the 100 backstroke on Friday, then as part of the 400 freestyle relay team on Saturday.
Mark Kovacsics will bring a pair of wins home from Utah after dominating the 1650 freestyle and winning the 500 free to boot. Jonathan Reiter also touched first for CBU, claiming the 100 breaststroke in a time of 53.33. Fabiani and Reiter teamed up with Tyler Mansheim and Andrija Petkovic to claim the 200 medley relay crown in 1:25.67.
Sofia Maksimova was the only Lancer woman to claim any outright wins, taking her freestyle sprints, the 50 and 100-meter races, in times of 21.94 and 48.59, respectively. She would cap her weekend with a solid second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a time of 54.06.
The Lancers will be back in action next month when they head to La Mirada for a dual with former GSAC and PacWest foe Biola on December 7th.
