IRVINE--- The California Baptist University track team competed in the Steve Scott Invitational this past weekend, with a few athletes earning personal records.
On Friday's events, Carlota Rodes kicked off the proceedings with a new personal best in the 5K. Rodes clocked in at 16:21.45, which was good enough for a third-place finish in the Women's 5000M invitational and was 12 seconds faster than her previous high. This was Rodes' second personal best of the season after logging a new best 10K time at the Stanford Invitational. Ania Lawrukajtis and Liliana Mlynarczyk also crossed the line in the 5K for personal best finishes, logging times of 17:43.66 and 18:06.95.
The Men's 5K Invitational was equally successful for the Lancers, earning two podium finishers in Matais Reynaga and Valentin Soca and a top 10 runner in Joaquin Campos. Reynaga crossed the line in second place and was four seconds off of earning a personal best time. Soca was two seconds behind Reynaga's time at 13:50.93, good enough for his best 5K time of the season. Campos earned a ninth-place finish in the race with a time of 14:13.19.
Yasna Petrova continued a phenomenal outdoor season as she competed in the Women's Mile Invitational on Friday evening and recorded a new personal best time of 4:50.93. The time for Petrova was three seconds faster than her previous record, which she set at last year's Steve Scott Invitational, and earned her a fourth-place finish in the meet. Lamiae Mamouni also crossed the line as a top-10 finisher for the Lancer in the mile, doing so at 4:59.29.
On day two of the invitational, Mamouni was the star of the show, earning her first top finish in her career. Mamouni crossed the line in first place in the Women's 800M at 2:13.42, missing her previous best by only three seconds that she set at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
NEXT: The Lancers will gear up for the 2024 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will run from May 9-11 in Orem, Utah.
