RIVERSIDE--- In his first race of the season, Valentin Soca of the California Baptist University cross-country team brought home the Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors following a strong performance at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
The Lancers faced one of the strongest fields in the country with 18 ranked teams in the race including four of the top six ranked teams in the nation. Soca would pace the men's team to an 11th place finish in the race in his first action since representing Uruguay at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan just a few weeks ago.
Soca's time of 23:30.1 would earn him a seventh place finish and help the Lancers to the impressive finish. The time was nearly 45 seconds faster than his performance at the 2023 Nuttycombe Invitational during his freshman campaign.
NEXT: Soca and the Lancers will gear up for the WAC Cross-Country Championships in two weeks in Arlington, Texas.
