CORVALLIS, OR --- The Lancers entered Gil Coliseum on the campus of Oregon State University on Saturday, kicking off the marquee road trip of the 2025-26 season. Taking on the Beavers of Oregon State, a tie game at halftime turned into a series of CBU runs in the second half, as the Lancers took down the Beavers, 75-69, to keep their unbeaten start alive.
Saturday extends the Lancers' unbeaten start to 7-0, improving the best start to a season in the program's Division I era.
Head coach Rick Croy noted that he wouldn't call Saturday's win a statement victory. "It's more of a stamp than a statement. We continue to stamp that it's team first. A lot of different guys stepped up. We knew there would be some storms. There were some sequences that if we weren't tied together, it could have cracked us."
Croy continued, "We stayed focused on assignments, and the guys made plays. We're preparing for the battle, and then with how we stay together in the fight, it's impressive."
The Lancers saw nine players touch the court, but two never stepped off as guards Dominique Daniels Jr. and Jordan Muller played all 40 minutes. Daniels Jr. returned after missing Tuesday's win in Palm Springs with an injury. That same night, Muller earned his first start and played 39 minutes."
"(Daniels Jr.) and (Muller) did an exceptional job against the press," noted Croy. "I was really proud of our guards. They pretty much went the distance tonight and did it with aggression."
Daniels Jr. ended the night with 12 points, eight coming in the second half. He also matched his career-high of seven assists. Muller dropped 13 points while connecting on 3-of-5 from distance.
Martel Williams led the Lancers in scoring with 19 points. Devon Malcolm was next with 16. Malcolm, an Oregon native, also shined on the defensive end as he recorded four steals.
Saturday's game was all square at halftime, as both teams retreated to their locker rooms with the scoreboard reading 30-30. The two teams continued to trade baskets to start the second half, but then a 10-2 run, capped off by a Muller three, gave the Lancers their first separation of the night.
The Lancers added an 8-2 run a few minutes later, pushing their lead to nine with just under nine minutes remaining. A 10-3 run came a few minutes later, this time pushing CBU's advantage to double digits.
Momentum was on the side of the Lancers entering the closing minutes, but a pair of Beaver threes cut CBU's lead to four. The Lancers answered with a pair of threes of their own, as Williams knocked down two from the corner in a span of 40 seconds, pushing the lead back to nine, and placing a stamp on CBU's seventh straight win.
The road trip continues on Monday when the Lancers battle the Buffaloes of Colorado. This will be CBU's first-ever trip to Boulder, and it will be a meeting of two unbeaten teams, as Colorado is also 7-0 to start the season.
After Colorado, the Lancers will play back-to-back games in Salt Lake City. All games of the road trip will be aired live on ESPN+.
