BOULDER, CO --- Monday morning marked the release of the first NET rankings for Division I basketball, further setting the stage for this evening's contest between California Baptist and Colorado. In what was already a meeting of two of the nation's final 25 unbeaten programs, Monday also pits two teams ranked in the top 68 of the initial NET rankings.
The Lancers, now 7-0 after their victory in Corvallis, jumped to No. 61 in the initial NET release. CBU owns the highest NET ranking out of the seven WAC programs, with Utah Valley being next at No. 72.
Colorado, 7-0 in their own right, sits at No. 46 in the NET release. Six programs from the Big 12 are ahead of the Buffaloes, including CBU's opponent on Wednesday, BYU, which sits at No. 13.
The Lancers are on the third leg of six straight games away from the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. CBU kicked off the trip with a neutral venue victory against San Diego. The Lancers then visited Oregon State in Corvallis, resulting in a 75-69 victory. CBU is 2-0 in true road contests this season, with its other win coming at UC Irvine.
Colorado, which is coming off a 2-0 showing in Palm Desert as part of the Acrisure Series, is 5-0 at home inside the CU Events Center. In those five games, the Buffaloes are averaging a staggering 94.4 PPG, including a 102-point performance in an overtime win against Eastern Washington. The Lancers will visit Eastern Washington on December 13.
CBU, on the other hand, has stifled teams with its defense through seven games. Opponents are scoring 77.9 PPG against Colorado this season. Against the Lancers, opponents are scoring just 63.0 PPG. The Lancers have also won the rebound battle in all seven games this season, posting a nightly rebound average of 43.0 compared to 28.7 from their opponents.
Colorado averages 37.4 boards per night.
Individually, the Buffaloes feature five players scoring double-figures on a nightly basis. Isaiah Johnson leads the bunch with 14.9 PPG. Sebastian Rancik (13.1), Bangot Dak (12.6), Barrington Hargress (11.9), and Alon Michaeli (10.8) round out the group.
Dominique Daniels Jr. continues to lead the Lancers with 17.8 PPG. Martel Williams is scoring 15.7 PPG to pair with 5.6 RPG. Freshman Jordan Muller, who has played 79-of-80 minutes over the last two games, is averaging 17.5 PPG in those two starts.
Monday's inaugural meeting between the Lancers and Buffaloes tips off from Boulder at 6 p.m. (PST). The game will be aired live on ESPN+. After Monday, the Lancers will head to Salt Lake City for their next two games, beginning with BYU inside the Delta Center on Wednesday.
