Battle of the Unbeatens Ends in CBU’s First Loss
12/1/2025 9:14:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BOULDER, CO --- The first day of December pitted two 7-0 teams against one another, as the Lancers continued their road trip in Boulder against the Colorado Buffaloes. CBU started hot, but an energized crowd inside the CU Events Center gave the Buffaloes the momentum they needed, as the Lancers took their first loss of the season by a final of 78-70.
Colorado's 78 points are their lowest this season. The Buffaloes entered the night averaging 94.4 PPG.
The Lancers looked good from the jump. Colorado scored the first bucket of the game, but back came CBU to level the score and take the lead. That lead grew to 14 points with 12 minutes remaining in the half. But then came the first run of the night by the Buffaloes, a 7-0 charge to cut the Lancers' lead to seven.
Colorado added another run late, this time a 12-0 charge to pull within three. At the intermission, the Lancers held a narrow 34-32 lead.
After ten minutes of close basketball to start the second half, Colorado took their first lead since 2-0 on a layup to give them a 53-52 advantage. The momentum continued, with Colorado piecing together a 16-0 run over the course of nearly eight minutes. The run eventually ended on a three-point play from Martel Williams, sparking a 7-0 run out of the Lancers.
CBU would not go away, as they trimmed what was a 12-point Colorado lead to four points entering the final minute of regulation. Needing a stop, a fadeaway jumper for the Buffaloes seemingly secured the win for the home team.
Guard Dominique Daniels Jr. was once again the star for the Lancers as he led all players with 25 points, doing so on 7-of-19 from the field. Williams closed with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
Colorado outrebounded the Lancers 41-35, marking the first time CBU has been outrebounded this season.
The road trip will march on, as CBU turns to Salt Lake City for its next two games. The Lancers' next opponent will be on Wednesday, BYU, a team ranked No. 9 in the latest AP Poll. Wednesday's game will take place inside the Delta Center.
Tip-off for Wednesday night is slated for 6 p.m. (PST), and it will be aired live on ESPN+.
