STOCKTON, CA--- The California Baptist University women's basketball team made it a 2-0 start on Saturday afternoon after a monster second-half effort lifted them over the Pacific Tigers on the road.
The Lancers outscored Pacific 45-24 in the second half, fueled by an incredible performance from true freshman Lauren Olsen, to earn the 67-54 victory and the first 2-0 start since 2023.
The Lancers, as they did on Monday night, had a tough offensive start coming out of the gates with Pacific scoring the first 11 points of the ball game. Shawnee Nordstrom would end the early drought with a deep triple as the Lancers slowly but surely got themselves back in the ball game. CBU would get within two points in the second quarter, but a late 9-4 run would give the Tigers a 29-22 advantage heading into halftime.
The Lancers continued to gain ground on the Tigers in the third period and ended the quarter on a strong run, closing the gap to just one heading into the fourth quarter. CBU dominated the final frame in a major way, outscoring the Tigers an astonishing 23-9, which included the Lancers leading by as many as 18 during the quarter. Olsen did a large portion of her damage in the frame as well, scoring 14 of her 27 points. The Lancer defense was equally impressive in the final ten minutes, holding Pacific to a 25% shooting percentage and limiting them to only four made field goals.
Olsen was the story of the afternoon with a game-high 27 points that would include four made triples and 11 total field goals. Olsen also had active hands on defense with four steals and her 27 points were just one point off the DI-era freshman scoring record for CBU which her teammates Khloe Lemon and Grace Schmidt both share. Emma Johansson continued her strong start to 2025 with another solid double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Johansson, who had the most blocks in the NCAA on opening night, would add four more blocks to her season total as well. Filipa Barros also stuffed the stat sheet as she often does with six points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and three assists.
NEXT: The Lancers will come back to Southern California for another road contest at Long Beach State on Wednesday, November 12, at 6 PM.
